Introduction

Four Plus Solutions is a dynamic Nursing Agency created by nurses, committed to delivering high-quality nursing and care staff to the public and private healthcare sectors. With decades of collective experience, we understand the vital role our services play in ensuring the well-being of individuals in care homes, mental health establishments, hospitals, and various other healthcare facilities. As we continue to provide top-tier staffing solutions, we recognize the importance of sustainability, not only in our staffing practices but also in our environmental footprint.

Our carbon reduction plan is designed to address the environmental impact of our operations. This plan will use the year January 2023 – December 2023 as a baseline for measuring and reducing our carbon emissions. We are dedicated to balancing the “care” we provide to our clients and workers with our responsibility to the environment.

Carbon Reduction Plan: January to December 2023 Baseline Year

1.      Energy Efficiency:
  1. Energy Audit: Conduct a comprehensive energy audit of our offices and operational facilities to identify areas for energy conservation and optimization.
  2. Energy-efficient Equipment: Replace outdated equipment with energy-efficient alternatives, including LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances, and HVAC systems.
2.      Transportation:
  1. Green Commuting: Encourage and incentivize employees to use eco-friendly transportation options, such as carpooling, biking, or public transport.
  2. Fleet Upgrades: Explore the possibility of transitioning to a more sustainable fleet, incorporating electric or hybrid vehicles for staff transport.
3.      Waste Reduction:
  1. Recycling Program: Implement and promote a comprehensive recycling program at our offices and facilities.
  2. Paperless Operations: Digitize administrative processes to reduce paper usage and streamline operations.
4.      Sustainable Procurement:
  1. Local Sourcing: Prioritize local and sustainable suppliers for office supplies, reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation.
  2. Green Procurement Policy: Develop and implement a green procurement policy that prioritizes eco-friendly and sustainable products and services.
5.      Carbon Offsetting:
  1. Investment in Renewable Energy: Consider investing in renewable energy sources or carbon offset projects to compensate for any remaining emissions.
6.      Employee Engagement:
  1. Awareness Campaigns: Conduct regular awareness campaigns and training for employees on sustainability, energy conservation, and carbon reduction.
  2. Incentives: Establish a reward system that recognizes and encourages employees for their contributions to reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
7.      Monitoring and Reporting:

Four Plus Solutions is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

While Four Plus Solutions recognizes the importance of data-driven decision-making in our carbon reduction efforts, it is essential to acknowledge that, in the absence of comprehensive historical data for our operations, we have initially relied on averages as a practical approach to estimate our carbon emissions for the baseline year of 2023.

The absence of precise historical data can be a common challenge for organizations, especially when embarking on sustainability initiatives. Therefore, in the absence of detailed emission figures, we have calculated averages for key aspects of our operations. These averages include energy consumption, transportation emissions, waste generation, and procurement-related emissions. These averages provide a starting point for our carbon reduction efforts and enable us to set clear goals for improvement.

However, we are fully committed to streamlining our data collection and reporting processes in the coming years. We understand that accurate data is crucial for making informed decisions, tracking progress, and optimizing our carbon reduction strategies. Our commitment to this endeavour includes the following actions:

We will implement robust data collection processes across our operations to capture precise information on energy consumption, transportation emissions, waste generation, and procurement-related emissions.

2.      Investment in Monitoring Systems:

Four Plus Solutions is embarking on a journey of carbon reduction initiatives for the first time. As a dynamic Nursing Agency, our mission is to provide high-quality nursing and care staff to the healthcare sector, but we also recognize the pressing need to address our environmental impact and contribute to a sustainable future. With 2023 as our baseline year, we are committed to taking our first steps towards a greener and more responsible operation.

1.      Environmental Assessment:

We understand that every journey begins with a single step. In our case, it starts with a comprehensive environmental assessment. This initial assessment will help us understand our current carbon footprint and identify areas where carbon reduction initiatives can be most effective.

2.      Setting Clear Goals:

Based on the data collected during the environmental assessment, we will set clear and achievable carbon reduction goals. While this is our first venture into sustainability, we aim to establish targets that align with best practices and industry standards.

3.      Energy Efficiency:

Energy conservation will be a central focus of our carbon reduction strategy. We will work to improve the energy efficiency of our offices and operational facilities, starting with a detailed energy audit to identify opportunities for reduction.

4.      Transportation Initiatives:

We recognize the significance of transportation emissions, and we are committed to reducing our impact. This will involve encouraging employees to adopt green commuting practices and investigating opportunities for a more sustainable staff transportation fleet.

5.      Waste Reduction:

In our first foray into sustainability, we will implement a comprehensive recycling program and promote paperless operations to minimize waste generation.

6.      Sustainable Procurement:

We will initiate efforts to source products and services locally and sustainably. While this may be a new direction for us, it is integral to reducing the carbon footprint associated with our procurement processes.

To compensate for our initial emissions and support environmental causes, we will explore the possibility of investing in renewable energy sources and carbon offset projects.

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard[1] and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting[2].

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard[3].

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
